In the ever-changing world of music and entertainment, one of the biggest challenges for celebrities is being able to go beyond their original craft and expand their audience. But if there is one star that has thrived on this situation, it is the legendary icon we all know as Snoop Dogg.
His career as a rapper took off when he played a crucial role to the success of Dr. Dre’s first victorious album, “The Chronic” in 1992. Snoop Dogg continued to propel as a rapper, selling over one million copies of his “No Limit Top Dogg” album released in 1999, and selling over two million copies of his album “The Last Meal” in 2000. He has since continued his success in music featuring songs with artists like Katy Perry and Keith Urban.
He has not only left an indelible mark on music, but he has also seamlessly expanded his influence into numerous spheres, setting himself apart and proving that he can truly do it all.
Jack of all trades
Snoop Dogg is no stranger to success and has a unique and vibrant personality that shines in every room he graces. He has not just revamped himself from a rapper to a multifaceted star; he’s also transformed as an entire person, finding a way to connect with many different audiences.
He is reaching audiences like sports enthusiasts and athletes as a host of the 2024 Paris Olympics and families and chefs as a co-host on a cooking show with Martha Stewart. Additionally, he is connecting with young musicians and music lovers as a new coach on the TV series “The Voice.” Snoop Dogg actively seeks ways to grow with his fanbase, expand his reach and engage with new audiences across many departments.
Additionally, Snoop Dogg played off his affinity with smoke in his recent ad campaign with Solo Stove, humorously announcing he was “done with smoke” and going “smokeless.” Ad Age ranked this collaboration #18 on its Top 40 Ads of 2023, and days after the ad dropped, Solo Stove gained 60,000 followers on social media.
Finding a new groove
He has also tapped into the young audience when he started the Doggyland Kids project. It is a YouTube channel featuring animated characters who teach children positive values, manners and essential life skills through songs, dances and other forms of interactive content. The dog mentor and guide of the show, Bow Wizzle, is Snoop Dogg’s voice, who highlights topics like acceptance, diversity and confidence.
The face of it all
Snoop Dogg is committed to maintaining his authentic personal brand and staying relevant through strategic collaborations and diverse engagements. In a recent appearance on an episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Snoop Dogg opened up about his new chapter ahead as a coach on “The Voice.”
“I really understand music and, you know, to be a real coach and to really give direction to some of these artists that could be today’s next big thing. That’s what people are going to learn about me … [and] that’s why I feel like people attract to me because I’m not one-sided,” he said. “I’m not just for you, I’m for everybody. I’m the people’s champ.”
This here is a reason he has successfully rebuilt himself from a rapper to the myriad star we see today, someone for everybody.
