When I see the logo for Hello Sunshine, I automatically think of the book club that Reese Witherspoon created, but it turns out the media company is way more than just a book club. Witherspoon’s company has produced hit television shows such as “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Big Little Lies” and “The Morning Show.” Hello Sunshine is fighting for women creatives to be seen and heard all around the world.

These women’s stories are shared through film, television, audio, the Hello Sunshine website and newsletter, social and digital channels, Reese’s Book Club and in real life. Although we see so many strong women throughout the entertainment industry, we do not see enough praise for the ones behind the scenes creating and writing the shows and movies we love. Since the Oscars have been created, only five women have been nominated for best director. Witherspoon is here to start changing the stigma around the male-dominated entertainment industry.

As an avid reader myself, there is nothing more I love than getting to see a book I have read come to life on the big screen. Hello Sunshine’s marketing strategy for female promotion is to get its smaller audience to read the books and engage in the female content it promotes, so then they will follow the stories all the way to the silver screen.

Sarah Harden, president of Hello Sunshine, noted that the company is “more interested in building smaller, but more engaged, audiences” than building a brand solely based on impressions. Its goal is to create an audience that will indulge in cross-platform content. Hello Sunshine is more concerned with uplifting female voices than its own.

Witherspoon is making major moves in the entertainment industry. With support from other famous female leads such as Kerry Washington, Kate Hudson and Octavia Spencer, to name a few, Witherspoon and these powerhouse women are changing the narrative.

Hello Sunshine posted a quote from Shirley Chisholm on its Instagram that says, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” It captioned the photo, “Pack a chair for a friend, too,” and that is exactly what the company is doing. Witherspoon and her team are creating a bond between women around the world that will be a force to be reckoned with.
